sophie cook feature in fabric (march 2003), transcript of article: Baby - Sophie Cook Ceramicist. From flogging clay wizards and goblins at her parents' house as a girl ('I sold them to grannies from my window') to making beautiful porcelain bottles for Nicole Farhi - the design spirit has always been in Sophie Cook's blood. Farhi spotted her talent after she left Camberwell in 1997 with a ceramics BA,
and Sophie (right) was commissioned to create a range of bottles for the design queen's London home store. The 28-year-old, who produces clean-coloured designs, isn't fazed by working for Farhi, or by honours such as winning the Adrian Sassoon award for best ceramics and glass at the last Chelsea Crafts Fair. It's the work - ranging from pale greys to aubergines - that occupies her: 'The colours are clean, not pastels - that makes me think of the 80s. The porcelain makes the colours luminous, translucent - they almost glow.' Buy her work at Designers Guild, Harrods and the V&A. Sophie Cook: 020 7394 3241.
